Everything about One Dollar Hub, how Dates and Mates differ, what it costs, and how preregistering works.
The app
What One Dollar Hub is
- One Dollar Hub is one app containing two separate products: One Dollar Date for dating, and One Dollar Mate for friendships, activities and groups. One account and one subscription covers both.
- They're built differently on purpose. Dates is an intentional dating queue — three open matches at a time, a 48-hour window to start a conversation, an optional questionnaire, and games where identities stay hidden until the end. Mates is a friends product with its own profile and username, unlimited friends, no expiry timers, hangouts, groups and hosted games. Your profiles and your people stay separate between the two.
- No. One login gives you both. You do set up a separate Mates profile the first time you open Mates — including your own @username — because your dating details shouldn't follow you into a friends feed.
- You pick which one to open the first time you launch the app, and that choice is remembered. You can switch anytime from your profile, and switching doesn't merge your dating and friends lists.
- We're starting in Australia, with Perth first — venues, date plans and hangouts are built around real local places. Suburb and distance settings are part of how people are ranked, so it works best where there's a local community.
Pricing
What it costs
- A$1 a month after launch, covering both One Dollar Date and One Dollar Mate. There's no gold tier, no boosts and no paywall on messages. Preregistering is free and you aren't charged anything now.
- Everything. Both products, all the ways to meet people, games, date plans, hangouts, groups, venue check-in, local deals and the safety tools. We don't sell extra likes, boosts or visibility.
- The first 100 people we pick for testing get 3 months free. Preregistering puts you in the pool we pick from — it isn't automatic.
Launch
When you can use it
- We're launching soon in Australia. There's no fixed public date on this page yet — preregister and we'll email you when we're live.
- Not yet. The app isn't publicly available for download. Preregister to be told the moment it is, or try the browser demo in the meantime.
Preregistration
Getting in early
- Fill in the short form — email, an optional display name, and confirming you're 18 or older. Preregister for Dates or Mates, whichever you're more interested in. It's free.
- It stays private to us and is used to contact you about launch and to run the giveaway. Other people never see it. See our Privacy Policy for the detail.
- Yes. On the preregister section there's an "Already preregistered?" box — enter the email you signed up with and we'll give you your code and share link again.
Launch giveaway
The giveaway
- It's one combined launch draw across Dates and Mates with 21 winners. Opting in when you preregister gives you 1 entry, and you get 1 extra entry for every friend who preregisters using your code. The draw happens 1 week after launch. The prize pack you receive matches the product you signed up for. Full detail is in the official terms & conditions.
- WA residents aged 18 or older. Entry is free. You must also create a One Dollar Hub app account using the same email as your preregistration during the first week after launch to be in the draw — preregistering on its own isn't enough.
- The Dates pack is a Perth date night — a $100 Hunter & Barrel voucher, 2 Holey Moley passes and a $50 Chicho Gelato voucher — plus 10 runner-up voucher prizes and 10 Uber lifeline vouchers. The Mates pack is a $100 Stories voucher, 4 Holey Moley passes and a $50 Grilled voucher, with the same runner-up and lifeline prizes. Exact terms, values and substitution rules are in the official terms.
The demo
Trying it now
- Yes — open the browser demo. Pick Date or Mates and walk through the product with sample data. No account and no download needed.
- No. The demo runs on example profiles and example games so you can see how everything fits together. It isn't live matching, live games or real people, and nothing you do in it is saved to an account.
One Dollar Date
Dating questions
- Because a hundred dead matches helps nobody. You can hold three open dating matches at a time; free one up and you can match again. If you're at the cap you can still star people to Favourites and come back to them. This cap is about matches — there's no limit on how many date plans you can look at or ask to join.
- If neither of you sends a message within 48 hours of matching, the match closes and the slot frees up. Once someone messages, the timer is done.
- Four: Hot Takes (3 rounds), Sketchy (2 rounds), Sounds Legit (3 rounds) and Red flag / Green flag (5 rounds, exactly 2 players and Dates only). They're all quick games — hosted lobbies are a Mates feature. On Dates everyone stays anonymous until the game ends.
- Because both people should want the conversation. You each tap "Let's chat" once and the chat opens. If a questionnaire was sent, that gets answered first. Until you've opted in you won't see messages the other person has already typed.
One Dollar Mate
Friends questions
- No. Mates has no match cap, no 48-hour expiry and no dating questionnaire. You can add as many friends as you like and unfriend anytime. One-to-one chats do still open when you both tap "Let's chat", so nobody gets messages they didn't ask for.
- Hot Takes, Sketchy and Sounds Legit, as quick games or hosted lobbies. Hosting lets you set a start time, player limits and a distance cap. Opening a lobby just lets you look — you join when you tap Join game. Red flag / Green flag is Dates only.
- Groups are communities built around an interest and a suburb, ranked by how much they overlap with your tags. Creating a public group requires identity verification; private groups are open to everyone. Groups have leads and admins who handle members and join requests.
Safety
Safety and privacy
- Yes. You confirm you're 18 or older to preregister, and the app is 18+ only.
- No, it's optional. You can submit a selfie with photo ID and a short hand-reveal video for review, which gives you a verified badge. You can also choose to only see verified people in Discover — and creating a public community group does require verification.
- There's no always-on location tracking. Venue check-in is something you turn on when you arrive somewhere, it lasts up to 6 hours, and it ends automatically. Location sharing during a date is also opt-in.
- Report a profile, chat, game answer or group, and block anyone you don't want to see again — blocking works across both Dates and Mates. You can also save an emergency contact and use the fake-call feature to leave a situation. See Safety for the full list.
